I am unable to update kernel from 2.13 to 3.2, after following instructions on https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205956 I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) with ver 10.11.5. Please help

Isolating an issue by using another user account
Eric I tried with other users and in safemode. Still inable to update from 2.13. the problem existed in yosemite and also when I updated this week to el capitan Do you have any other suggestions?

You have tried the update using Wi-Fi and by booting into the Recovery Partition?

Yes, then went through process described above. Still no update
The very last part of the article states that the next step is to reinstall the OS.
Do a backup, preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility and select First Aid. Then re-install the OS.
