Q: Devices after 2012

So devices made after 2012 cannot have memory replaced whatsoever?

    Well its a little more complex: The 2012 13-inch non-Retina (still in production) has user-acessible RAM. The 2012 and later Retina models do not.

     

    Basically current MBPs don't even have RAM slots. To save space and weight, the RAM is integral with and soldered to the logic board.

     

    As for other Macs, all iMacs with 27-inch monitors still have user-accessible RAM.

     

    21.5-inch iMac models from Late 2012 through the late 2013 models still have slots but the case is glued together; Apple doesn't want you inside. Still some people break the glue seal to access RAM slots but I don't recommend it. The 2014 and later 21.5-inch iMacs have RAM integral with the logic board like the Retina Macbook Pros.
