Q: Problem with playback after adding files to archive.

I just started having this problem today. I was trying to add a folder with several albums' worth of Apple Lossless songs into the iTunes archive. That worked fine, but when I went to play them, there were loud bursts of static in some songs (actually every song that I tried to play). Others would only play for two seconds before skipping to the next song, but I could manually drag the time to another point in the song to get it playing. Doing that still left me with the bursts of static, though.

This really doesn't make sense to me because I can play the same files in the default windows player with no issues. I am doubly confused because I added another CD the same way today and had no issues.

Also, I am on the latest version of iTunes: 12.4.1.6, and I am running Windows 10.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem?

    Hi there, Mersch J.!

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Based on the information in your post, I am understanding that when playing content in iTunes, some songs will skip after a few seconds, and most songs have some static in them. Neither of these issues appear in other audio players, though. I use iTunes to manage and listen to my music, so I know it's important to get good quality playback from your content, and am happy to help!

Since the issue only appears in iTunes, and not other audio players, the good news is that it's not likely to be the files themselves, or the location they're stored. That indicates to me any troubleshooting should start with iTunes itself by way of uninstalling all of the iTunes components, and then reinstalling the software. Please follow the instructions in the article linked below carefully to do this, then test the audio playback again.

Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later

    Happy listening!

No luck. The problem persists after a full reinstallation. There was not change, as far as I can tell.
