How to turn off MIDI input to Logic from just my USB keys

Question: Where exactly do I go to turn off MIDI input to Logic from just my USB keys (I'm sending them to another app and don't want them also picked up in L, but don't want ALL MIDI in to Logic to stop). And where to turn off Logic from sending any MIDI out? I've looked at all the prefs I can find, looked at dozens of online links, tuts and docs, nothing… This is so easy in Live, sigh!

TIA!

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), null

Hey - This is really helpful, thanks, and solves the issue for sequencer input!

It doesn't seem to resolve the same issue for controller assignments though in Logic! Even though I've routed the MIDI input I don't want to a dummy device/ monitor, Logic still listens to this.

Is there a way to set controller assignments to listen to the sequencer input, and not all MIDI devices?

(to put this in to context: I've a Zoom TAC-8 audio interface that uses a 'Reserved Port' to communicate from the MixControl software for setting gains, phantom power on the device etc..... via MIDI. There is a constant stream of random MIDI messages being sent to Logic.

I used this solution to stop this system data being recorded in to Logic's sequencer input. But am still unable to make controller assignments from my MIDI keyboard, as the Zoom TAC-8 Reserved Port is replacing this data/ being recieved first instead)

Any solutions/ ideas would be awesome!

Open the environment window

go to clicks and ports

look at the outputs on the physical input and find your usb device

new -> monitor (create this object )

draw a cable from your usb device on the physical input to the monitor

That's it

when you want to make it work in logic again just delete the cable

get that to work first then we can discuss outputs

Excellent, much appreciated! Will definitely explore (I'll need to find an Environment tut somewhere to get fully clear on all you've mentioned, happy to do so:), now that I know where to look and what I need to understand (rather than, say, what pref, button, or menu item I need to find!), and why I hadn't already found it:)

Will be back for the outputs, too, even if my tuts explain that, just to report🙂

Here is a quick vid to show you what to do....

What happens is all midi input arrives into logic thru the "sum" port on the physical input.

When you cable one of the ports that is summed - it removes it from the sum port and redirects to whatever is cabled.

Since the cable goes to a monitor object and no where else - it is just tossed out and therefore never enters logic.

Delete the cable and all returns to normal.
