Q: OSx gone after installing Bootcamp!!

Hello. Recently I installed Bootcamp. Everything seemed to go well, until I noticed that after a while the Recovery HD partition disappeared. I have no clue what I did or what I messed with, but it's gone... Only after that OSx vanished, and now I'm stuck on Windows. I really, really, really need help!! I have important files on my OSx and I cannot afford losing them! Please help!!

Thank you...

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

Type 'Y'. It should erase the EFI partition, only if necessary.

If Windows boots normally, do you have a Bootcamp icon in the System Tray or a Bootcamp item in Control Panel -> System? If yes, can use either option to switch back to OS X?

    To Windows:

The icon is ther but the last time I told it to boot to OSx, it just started up windows again. When I press alt during startup, only windows was an option as well. Shall I try it now again?

The GPT now looks good. Please run How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support and then boot and hold the Alt/Option key. What are the available options? If you see OS X, boot into OS X. If OS X boots properly, switch to Windows using System Preferences -> Startup Disk. Unlock the preference pane, if necessary.

At the moment there seem to be no options, besides Internet Repair. Should I enter that?

You do not have Windows, because you have an 'extra' partition - disk0s4. Shutdown your Mac.

Run Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support and the NVRAM reset and check the Alt/Option key.

If OS X does not boot properly, please see How to install OS X on an external drive connected to your Mac - Apple Support and install OS X on an external disk and boot from this external disk. Once you boot from the external disk, it is much easier to diagnose/fix problems.

Seems like I will have to install on an external disk! It might take a little!

Hmm.. I can't seem to find my external disk at the moment. Do you have another idea? The 140gb partition I made would be up for an install of OSx. Would that work too?

Oh, and I wouldn't mind giving up bootcamp for now. I only need my applications and data from my mac osx to remain. Bootcamp can go.

Did your NVRAM Reset change the boot selections?

Indeed, I did. If I install osx on the unused partition, coul I possibly save all my apps and files? Transfer them over perhaps to the new Osx? Would that work?

Internet Recovery is offering you the shipping OS X version. Using the internal partition or an external disk is equivalent. The external disk is safer. A 16-32GB USB Flash drive will also work. Once you install the shipping version, use App Store to upgrade to the version that matches your internal disk before ewe do anything further.

Unless you erase a partition or disk, OS X re-installation does not overwrite your non OS X files on that partition.

You do realize that installing OSX also modifies the Recovery partition on the disk on which you are installing OSX. This is why I suggested an external disk.

Oh, sorry. Well, when I installed Bootcamp I formatted the "Recovery HD" drive, thinking it was nothing... So it has been missing either way, I think..
