Q: Magic Mouse 2 keeps losing connection

Hi, I am using a brand new iMac 5k, El Capitan v10.11.5

Every time I use it the mouse will randomly lose connection for about 5-10 seconds and then connect again. It also happens with the keyboard sometimes. Battery levels above 90%

Is there anything I can do to fix it? It really disrupts my work flow.

Thanks

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5)

    Hello Miles A M,

I'll try to answer your question but I will have to make some assumptions.   Unlike many, you have properly filled out your profile and that helps.

For example;  I see that in addition to the MacBook Pro (running El Cap), you have an iMac (running El Cap) and an iMac running Yosemite.   Are they all in the same room much of the time, like when your problem occurs?   Then, the mice.   At least one should be Magic Mouse 2, but one will be Magic Mouse 1.   Are they situated close together?   If either of the above are true, it is quite likely you have an interference problem.   And which mouse is the problem one; my assumption is the Magic Mouse 2.

The first thing to do is to try to isolate the Magic Mouse 1 from the room.   Turn off the Yosemite loaded iMac, remove any Wacom tablets and pens and the like and set to testing the Magic Mouse 2 with the new iMac .

Now my imagination may not be accurate, so where things are differently located, let me know so we can talk our way through it.

    Hello, Thanks for the reply.

This problem is with the iMac with Magic Mouse 2

The Macbook pro is in the same room but doesn't use any magic mouse and bluetooth is turned off.

I do however have a Wacom tablet that I use, but the problem happens even when it isn't plugged in and put aside. It seems that interference is likely the issue but I cant tell what would be causing it. My desktop has monitor speakers and an audio mixer as well, and my iphone  usually nearby.

Also to clarify this is about one iMac running El Cap, none running Yosemite

    Good morning,

Heaven knows where I got the Yosemite from, possibly confusing it with another person's question.

With the Wacom tablet turned off could you remove both it and the pen from the room for a while.   The pen can be as intrusive as the tablet.   Then test.

Has this situation arisen from day one.   If so, have you checked out Apple's guide to interference.       See here >     Potential sources of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference - Apple Support

Hello, Thanks for the tips. I removed my tablet and put it in another room, and looked at the guide you linked. Still happens though. Both the keyboard and  the mouse temporarily cut out and then come back. My monitor speakers (not wireless) are nearby but turned off at the moment. The only thing I can think of causing it would be my iphone? Not sure what else I can try to do. my desk is wooden and there is nothing in between the computer and the mouse/keyboard.. hmmm

    Hello Miles.

The only type of phone likely to cause such disruption is the household phone hub, where you have two or three around the house standing on their own charging pedestals.   The central hub pedestal is a possible suspect ... even heavy metal jewellery is a possible.

So sorry not to have helped.   One last thought, do you live in an flat, with party walls.   A neighbour the other side could have electronic equipment the other side of the wall.

Its alright, thanks for all your help. I'm thinking it could be some of my sound equipment. Im going to try placing it further from the computer.

Good find.   Very likely.  It often comes down to a process of elimination.
