This accessory may not be supported

For about the past 2 weeks, each time I try to charge my phone I get the message "This accessory may not be supported". I am using the original Apple charger to connect. I know a workaround but have to use it each time I want to charge my phone. Is this a known issue that can be fixed or is it something serious? I got my phone through AT&T but they won't support Apple and I haven't been able to get through on support chat.

Can anyone give me some direction? Many thanks!

Without knowing anything else (like what your workaround is) the first things I would suspect is that either your charger or lightning cable is going bad. Can you swap these and see if the problem continues? If not, you might take them to a nearby Apple Store and let them look at the accessories since they are genuine/original Apple products.

You might want to try the simplest first. That symptom can mean that there is dirt in the Lighting connector on the bottom of the phone. Inspect it with a bright light and clean out any cruft or pocket lint in it with a non-metallic probe such as a toothpick or cotton swab stem (without the cotton).
