Q: Major battery drain after latest El Capitan Update

MacBook Pro (15", early 2011)

2.2 GHz Intel Core i7

16GB 1333MHz DDR3

Since I have installed El Capitan update to Version 10.11.5, my battery never shows a full charge even when plugged in for over 48hrs (highest % shown is 96%).  Also, if running on battery power, battery drains very quickly with only one major item open, like an Excel spreadsheet or Safari (literally drops 3-5% every 10min).  I have noticed one other thing that seems to also be new.  Cooling fan runs at a higher speed more often, seems to be running almost all the time whether plugged in or battery power. 

Any ideas?  Any thought?

Not really good at troubleshooting Mac, fairly new to this.
