Q: iTunes losing books in iBooks

iTunes is failing to list books in that appear in iBooks and which are on my iPad.  This is frustrating because iTunes cannot be used to add and delete books from my iPad.

Any suggestions?

When you sync, your eBook library will appear. You'll see a complete listing of your books. The next time you sync, make sure to sync "all books." When the sync ends, your missing books should reappear on your iMac's desktop.

This is the way to delete unneeded books, too.

Your suggestion seems like it should work, but it did not. iTunes continues to show fewer titles than are actually on the iPad. This is similarly less titles that are in iBooks on the iMac where iTunes is resident.

I have tried syncing all the books on the iPad to iTunes on two different iPads. I have tried restarting the iPad and iTunes. Nothing changed.

Now I notice that iBooks on my Mac is also dropping PDF books sometimes.  Very Frustrating.

I've noticed that books occasionally "disappear" from my iPad. I've since found out the reason why it happens, and how to get the books back. I don't know if this will work for you, though I hope it does. Fact is, for every person who has this problem, there's probably a few others who don't even post.

    1. Sync your Mac and iTunes.

You cannot "get your books back" unless you are in "sync" mode. Open iTunes, and insert the sync cable at the same time. Tap on the tiny "disk" icon that represents your iPad. It's right next to the "Music" pulldown menu.

    2. Go to the iTunes Sync Page

While synced on your desktop, your iTunes will look like this:

You'll see two lists of icons on the left: "Settings" and "On my device." Going down the list, you'll see "Apps," "Music," etc. Under "settings," tap "Books."

    3. Book Edit View

You will now be able to edit your book selection.

This is where you fix the "disappearing books" problem. You'll probably notice a few other books that are missing from your iPad. In the check field near the top, choose "All Books," then press "Sync" at the bottom of the page. When the sync is done, your books should be back.

    Poikkeus 1,

Thank you for the detail explanation. It was helpful, but it still has not solved my problem.  I think everything on my iPad is on the Mac now, but some ebooks on my iMac are not available on the iPad.  Very frustrating. It makes me want to dump iBooks!
