Q: Wiping/Reassigning Business iPad

I have 2 iPads turned in from former employees that are tied to their personal Apple ID/email address.  Is there any reasonable method to wiping these for the purpose of reallocating them?  They are owned by our business, but locked with a 4 digit PIN or linked to an iCloud/Apple ID we have no means of accessing.

We have attempted to work with the  former employees for such access to no avail.  Surely there must be a solution for those using iPad in a business environment?

If they’re set to be managed through Apple Configurator, the activation lock can be bypassed that way. If not, take them and their purchase receipts to a physical Apple Store.

Do as Niel has said. Also, I strongly suggest investing in a good Mobile Device Manager (MDM) like Casper or Mobile Iron (we use Casper). If you are not already using the Device Enrollment Program (DEP) go to your nearest Apple Store (or call them at 1-800-MY-APPLE) and inquire about it. It will log all of your purchases and when you use it with your MDM, it will begin enrolling them before you get back to the office. You will have much more control of the iPads while still being able to give your employees the freedom to use the device as they need (you could have complete control if you need/want). If an employee leaves and puts a passcode and/or activation lock on it, you can simply click a couple of buttons and have a fresh device ready in 15 minutes to a few hours (depending on how much is on it).
