Jul 16, 2016 3:03 PM in response to GregWAby Eric~F,Hello GregWA,
Thanks for asking your question here in the Apple Support Communities. I know how important my music is to me throughout the day, and how important that feature is to get the songs you enjoy into playlists. Here are some things you can check.
The first thing I recommend is to simply turn the device off, then back on. Sometimes this gets everything to start working again, and may be all you need. You can turn off the iPod classic by holding the Play/Pause button. To turn it back on, press any button.
If you still are unable to get the option for a Genius playlist, the iPod Classic Manual states: "The Genius slider doesn’t appear if Genius information isn’t available for the current song. This is from the manual linked here: iPod Classic User Guide on page 25. I noticed this also "In order for iPod classic to create a Genius playlist, Genius must recognize the selected song, and there must be enough songs on iPod classic similar to the selected song.".
If you are able to verify there are multiple songs all with the title and artist saved properly in the device and the option is still not available, the manual I provided has quite a few settings to verify that may resolve your current issue.
Thanks again and have a great rest of your day.

Jul 17, 2016 7:49 PM in response to Eric~Fby GregWA,As I said in my note, this feature has been working fine up until recently. I have over 17K songs in my library and the vast majority of those were recognizable. There have not been any library-wide changes. I will check the manual again, it's possible I missed something.
