Q: Search: Notes field and Ranges

We use lumberjack (fantastic app) to import transcripts into fcpX. This transcription metadata now exists in the notes field within ranges.  However, the issue involves search functionality.

The search result will bring up the clip of the word/ phrase searched for, however it will not bring up the specific range it is located in. You can toggle the trianglee down and eventually see what you are looking for but you have to wade through all the other ranges to get to what is sought after.

So if we have an interview that consists of 3 muliticam clips, it will correctly select the appropriate clip that the word is located, but will not locate or highlight the range it exists in.We have tried searching in both list and filmstrip views, and though orange ranges will often appear, they do not contain what the search term asking of it.

How are these ranges created? As favorites? By a keyword?

You can do your search by several criteria at the same time. If your defined ranges are marked as favorites, you can search for the text you want and by rating. Then only the ranges meeting both criteria will show, not the entire clips.

Likewise for ranges defined by keywords. And, of course, you can make these searches into smart collections, so they are always there for you (and automatically updated as your content and metadata evolves over time).

FYI, there is a limitation in FCPX that does not allow what we'd expect LumberJack to do.  Intelligent Assistant has asked Apple to improve on this, but no one is holding their breath.  This is one reason Keywords are superior to transcripts in FCPX.

Not a solution, but interesting background info.
