I Have upgraded my late 2011 MacBook pro and was hoping it would handle FCPX. ( 500gb ssd, 16gb ram, both from OWC.)

I'm currently using iMovie but would like to grow a bit. Unfortunately I can't quite afford a new machine just yet. Though I know I may be limited in some applications, would I be wasting my money investing in FCP right now? THANKS!!

That should work fine with FCP X.

There is a Trail version available so you can try before you buy.

In addition, if you like FCP X and decide to purchase it, when it comes time to replace your MBP, you will most probably be able to use the application on the new MBP without paying again. (Saying "probably" only because we have no way of knowing what future compatibility requirements will be.)
