different passwords for apple ID and for apple tv?

My apple ID password does not work for Apple TV and I do not remember if I had a different password. When I tried to set up a new password it changed my apple ID password and I still cannot use my apple tv.

Apple TV, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Thanks for your help; however, I fixed it another way. I reset my apple tv so it does not require a password.

My Apple ID definitely did not work for the Apple TV although it does work for my other devices.

The same password will apply for your Apple ID on every device.
