Jul 18, 2016 7:54 AM in response to shtsmtby turingtest2,If you use File > Add Folder to Library then it should include subfolders. Make sure that they are not hidden and that you have the correct security permissions. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows.

Jul 20, 2016 1:09 PM in response to turingtest2by shtsmt,I do use the File>Add Folder route.. but subfolders do not show .. If I search my external hard drive when not in iTunes subfolders will be searched..
I have previously attempted to restore permissions without correcting this issue.
Also, in previous versions of iTunes (when my full hd was accessible) I was able to drag and drop and drop directly into playlist, now I have to go through the Add File route. Is it possibly a glitch or is this normal.
I never had this much trouble before..

Jul 20, 2016 4:40 PM in response to shtsmtby shtsmt,Maybe I'm just completely untrainable....
I am attempting to restore permissions..
I am lost, .. I have both my laptops on, both have my iTunes opened to properties.. trying to find the difference in settings..
.. My ; Music\iTunes\iTunes Media is all Full Control
..My ; Music\iTunes is wonky..
In user group/names I have 5 names listed.. three have full control.. 1 is read only.. 1 is read & execute..
After I edited the permissions, I now have 7 names/groups.. the 2 I edited to full control are now each listed twice, once with full control once with the read / read & execute.. and I cannot remove the read/read&execute due to inheriting permissions..
I have not updated the program yet.. I want to wait until I have a strong connection (after kids go to be.. no one on internet)

Jul 21, 2016 5:45 AM in response to shtsmtby turingtest2,From previous experiments I've found that both your own personal user account or the Everyone account, plus the SYSTEM account need to have Full Control access rights as a minimum. Additional rights for other users are not an issue. Once you're sure the top level rights are correct using the feature to replace inheritable permissions should ensure that the correct rights are applied throughout the folder tree.
