Q: iMac turns off unexpectedly...

Hi,

 

I have a 2008 iMac and for some reason while I'm using it the screen turns off and won't turn on with the mouse or power button, I still can hear the Mac running like it normally does when it is turned on. Is the problem happening because I turn it off from the powerpoint because I still hear a fan noise running while it is shut down, I've heard that some desktops do updates while it is switched off or is there a different explanation?

Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for an SMC reset. Read and follow all the steps.
