Q: dates changed of our photos

We use El captain X 10.11.5

recently we updated the software as was offered bij Apple tot the newest version of iLife

Thereafter, iPhoto did not function any more and all our 25,000 photo's were migrated to (imported in) Photos (V 1.5).

Unfortunately, most dates of the individual photos were changed completely (f.i. 3-6-2015 in stead of 5-2-2012). Because the dates of the photos changed our approximately 1000 albums were reorganized by the software and useless for us.

We are quite desperate

Please advise us how tot undo the changes

kind regards

Laurens

Laurens, do you still have the original iPhoto Library?

And did you try to update to iPhoto 9.6.1 - this version will run on El Capitan.

You can update to iPhoto 9.6.1, if your iPhoto '11 is appearing on the Purchases tab of the AppStore. You cannot update an iLife installer disk version of iPhoto unfortunately.  See Barney's user tip:

Can't Update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store.

How did you migrate the iPhoto Library to Photos?  The capture dates you are seeing in Photos should be the same as in iPhoto, unless the migration went wrong.

The correct way to migrate an iPhoto Library to Photos is to drag the library onto the Photos icon in the Dock. Is that how you did it?

That does not happen if you migrate correctly

Why do you think the dates have changed? How exactly did you migrate the iPhoto library to Photos?

The migration of the library to Photos started automatically when we tried to import new photos in iPhoto (of which we were not aware that we had an old version), without a warning, instruction or an alternative.

We have no idea how and why the dates have changed

This was very helpful. With the new version of iPhoto we have got our albums back and most of them with the correct content. However. the dates of the individual photos are still wrong and some albums have the wrong content

this makes no sense since nothing you do in iPhoto has any effect in Photos - launching iPhoto can not  cause a migration to Photos

what application are you using (name and version) and what OS version do you have?

and what makes you thing the dates have changed? Where are you seeing these changed dates?
