Q: Problem with Finder

I have a Copy & Paste issue with Finder on my 2015 Macbook 12" (OS X 10.11.5).

I created a new folder on my desktop. Then I copied a bunch (approx. 500) music files from my iTunes media folder, and pasted them into the new folder on the desktop. Most of the files were duplicated perfectly but quite a few of them have a little X in a grey circle on the top left hand corner of the file icon. Some others also have an empty loading bar on the file icon as well. I've noticed these X's and loading bars on the icons are only visible in Icon View... What do they mean? How do I/Should get rid of them?

The files seem to work fine, I can preview them with force touch and open them with iTunes.

MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), Space grey, 256gb, 1.1Ghz processor

    Hi morgan.h,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you have created a new folder on your desktop and moved music files from your iTunes media folder into the new folder. Most of the files were copied fine, but some music files haven't completely copied. I do know how important it is to make sure that you are able to copy and paste files where you want on your Mac. I have something that I would like you to try.

I would like you to check your iTunes preferences. By default, your iTunes Media folder is in your iTunes folder, and it contains all of your media files, including: songs that you imported from CDs, items you purchased from the iTunes Store, such as songs, music videos, or movies, and any other items you added to iTunes, if you turned on "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" in iTunes Preferences.

You can find more information in this article here: Locate and organize your iTunes media files - Apple Support

Please make sure that "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" is enabled by following this path: iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > check Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library. If it not checked, please try the copy and paste again after enabling. If it was checked, please give your computer a fresh restart and then check the new folder on your desktop again to see if some files still have the grey x and loading bar.

    Best Regards.
