Transfer edited photos from PC to iPhone

I would like to transfer edited photos (if it helps, I edit with Adobe Lightroom) to my iPhone 6 Plus via the Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader. I know the SD card has the small JPG files (as in less than 2 MB) but my iPhone does not display the photos when the mentioned card reader is plugged in with the SD card. I should note the Import from the Photos app does launch.

Is there any way to save these files this route (e.g. should I use another software to save the edited photos) or use different hardware?

Try using iTunes to sync photos/albums from your PC to your phone. I use Photoshop on my PC and then sync photos to Albums on my iPhone and iPad. See lower part of this article.
