Merging inactive POP email into active IMAP without creating duplicate messages?

For some reason my Hotmail email account has gone back & forth. Is there a simple way to merge the inactive POP into the active IMAP without creating duplicate messages?

iCloud-OTHER, iOS 6.1.3, iCloud Document storage retrieval

I would move POP mail to on my Mac by creating new folders, for example: Old in box, Old Sent box etc

Drag and drop the emails to populate the new folders.

Then delete the POP account.
