I set up device as new, no longer receiving group iMessage

Hey there,

The other day I wiped my iPhone and it wouldn't restore from the backup so I set up the device as new.

I was in a few group iMessage chats, but I am no longer receiving these messages even though my phone number and apple ID have not changed and are connected to this device. Everyone else in the group is getting them still.

I'm just wondering if there's any way to begin receiving these iMessages again or do we have to start new group chats?

You probably have to set up iMessage again since the restore was as new.

Add or remove your phone number in iMessage or FaceTime on your iPad, iPod touch, or Mac - Apple Support

Thanks, but I have already set up my iMessage again with both my phone number and apple ID.

Did you tell the device to only use your phone number? Settings > Messages > Send & Recieve > Uncheck any contact that is not your phone number.

Additional Info:

New group iMessage chats are working fine. It is only that my old ones are not coming up.

For example if one friend sends a text to an old iMessage group, everyone else in that group will receive it, but I will not get anything.

Maybe you can try these:

1. Turn off your iMessage & Facetime

2. Turn on Airplane mode

3. Go to Settings > General > Reset

4. Choose Reset Network Settings

5. Turn off Airplane mode

6. Turn on your iMessage & Facetime again using your cell network (without WiFi)

7. Wait until the pop-up of activation appears

Are all the people in the old group still in your contacts? Try to re-establish the connection from your end, create a group with all the same people and send a message. See if that aligns things.

Creating a new group from my end only creates a new group for everyone.
