Q: Parental controls iPod touch questions please

Hi, looking at getting iPod touch for my 11 year old, dont want him online unsupervised.

1)Can i block the internet connection>

2)Cant you just overide the parental controls with a hard reset?

3)If hard reset is done would there be a notification or someway of seeing this has been done?

Sorry for sounding ocd just trying to keep him safe as possible.

Thanks Gaz

I haven't tried to use them in earnest but take a look at Use Restrictions on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. If you block Safari, and control which apps are installed, then you've effectively blocked access to the internet. If you enable the FindMyiPhone app then the phone cannot be reset to factory settings unless you choose to unlock it.

What do yo mean by a hard reset?

If you mean placing in Recovery mode and then restoring via iTunes there is not way. However, if the iPod has iOS 7 or later the Apple ID and PW last used in Settings>iCloud will have to be entered to activate the iPod for use.  If they then sign into FaceTime or Messages other devices using the same Apple ID will be notified that another device was just signed in.

Also, if the iPod was backed up with the Restrictions in place then the Restrictions will be restored.

This paid, subscription app provides internet controls

    HI lllass

Thanks for the information, most helpful.

By hard reset i meant restoring the touch to its original settings.

Can i also ask - i saw something on youtube that looked like you can connect the iPod touch to internet without wifi using blue tooth of anothes mobile phone.

Is this correct and if so then wouldnt this just overide any parental settings or browser app?

If so can i retrict blue tooth option on ipod touch via setting so kids cant change them?

Thanks for your time, i have no clue about all this and am determoned to  make this as safe as possible for me child.

    Thanks TT2

The Findmy iphone app sounds perfect and puts my mind at ease to stop factory resettings being done.

Yes, you can tether an iPod to an iPhone to use its internet connection. To my knowledge it only will work with an iPhone.

I know of no way to turn of/Restrict BlueTooth

So you cant restrict blue tooth in restrictions settings?

So if the device was tethered would the Internet connection be without the safe browser app?

To my knowledge, a BT intern tether is just like connection to the internet via wifi. The apps do not know the difference (except a BT connect in is slower)
