Macbook 2016 HDMI output flickering

I'm on 10.12.2. The display seems to be more stable, but I haven't used it long enough to see if the issue has resolved. My problem has been with intermittent complete screen black-outs.

I do still have crash on wake that has not resolved with the recent macOS update.

I'm so frustrated with this computer. It's like going back to a prior generation of computers in which I have to save all my work and close out of every application before sleeping. If the display is attached to the computer I have a wake success of less than 10% and then have to long press the power button multiple times in order to get the computer to restart. I just bought AppleCare because I'm highly concerned that one of these days it's not going to power on. I've reinstalled the OS twice but still have these crashes when attached to the monitor. I never have the crashes when the machine is disconnected from the USB-c.

anybody who moved from beta to alpha can confirm it's solved in alpha?

I have this issue too since switching to MBP2016. I ran 10.12.2 beta6 and now 10.12.2 final. Still the same issue.

I'm using the Apple AV HDMI adapter and a Dell 34" Curved. Display is off every X minutes for 1-5 seconds...

It doesn't matter if the MacBook just booted or woke up from sleep.

after dealing with this problem I finally found the solution: I sold the macbook and did not buy one of the newly released usb-c only laptops. After many years using apple products I bought the dell 13".

It took me 2 weeks to get used of the windows crap. but everything works as expected unlike the macbooks.

I hope many people follow my route and apple will once again learn how to appreciate their valued customer who finance their product development, and will make the company survive or not.

With beta6 you had the issue? For me beta solved it. I'm waiting for confirmation of the issue solved in final version

Yep, still had the issue with my Dell 34" (U3415W). Now I switched display with a colleague (Dell P2715Q), this works better. So it's an issue with USB-C + AV Adapter + Dell U3415W

XPS 13? How do you find it generally? Is it the new one with USB-C? I already have a USB-C dock so would be nice to use that if possible. I'm about to jump ship also I think .. iPad/iPhone will exist for day to day stuff but for anything serious I don't think a Mac is a suitable tool any longer.

yesterday morning I advised users to upgrade to the latest public version and they reported is stable now no more flickering

Apple Macbook Air, Apple USB-C Dongle and Philips/Dell 4k Monitors so far it looks promising.

Been using the 12.2 betas, and now the release - the intermittent flickering problem seems to have been resolved. I was encountering it when using the 12" Retina MacBook with an external monitor on both HDMI (with Apple HDMI adapter) and DisplayPort (using a CalDigit USB-C Dock). Since the second 12.2 beta, this problem seems to have gone away.

As others have experienced, with 10.12.2 since beta 3 it seemed to be fixed. Occasionally would get a fraction of a second of digital snow but none of the black-outs.

However a variant on the problem seems to have come back from the dead in the 10.12.3 beta (16D12b) - just had a bunch of black-outs followed by more snow. Re-plugging the USB-C cable seems to have stopped it for now. Hopefully was just a passing glitch, but shall keep an eye on this.

I have this problem as well. I use a j5create port hub with hdmi port and screen flickers every minute or so, swipes left or going blank for about 2 seconds and screen reappears.

Providing some follow up: I haven't had any screen black outs since updating to 10.12.2 while in macOS. I'm still getting regular black outs while in bootcamp. I recently updated my bootcamp drivers, so I'm not thinking that Apple has propagated whatever fix they did in 10.12.2 to the bootcamp side. I'm still getting crashes while trying to wake while attached to a monitor, but maybe seeing less overall since the new update.
