iPod Classic won't mount in OS 10.4.11

Greetings friends,

When I connect my iPod 160gb Classic to my Mac G4 Desktop, the iPod does not mount. iTunes does not open and the iPod does not show when I open iTunes manually, but the iPod screen shows that it is connected and syncs for a brief moment. The iPod screen prompts me to eject before disconnecting, but it is not showing in iTunes or on the desktop. Running OS 10.4.11 on my Mac G4. Everything was working fine, but then one day it just would not. Please Help. I am afraid to reset for fear that I will loose all my music, photos, contacts and it still might not mount.

Peace,

JG

First I followed the directions via the Corrupt iPod Classic link in the response to my query. Then I connected the iPod Classic to my MacBook and it mounted there. I restored it, ejected, and connected to my G4. I was prompted by iTunes to sync with the G4. A third of the way into the iTunes sync, I got an alert that said iTunes could not complete the task. I reconnected the iPod Classic to my MacBook, ran Disk Utility and restored via iTunes on the MacBook. Started sync with the MacBook and 18 hours later I had all of my 14,000 + songs and playlists synced with the iPod Classic. Then I created 2 new Playlists to see if they would sync. They did. All is well now. Hope this helps. Thanks for the help.

Peace,

JG
