Q: OS X Photos Slide Show: determining the # number of photos per slide

OS X Yosemite (10.10.5) - Photos (1.0.1) - Slide Show

I'm trying to make a slide show in photos, but I can't figure out how to control the number of photos per slide. When I rearrange the order via sliding and dragging, the program will automatically group photos for each slide and sometimes I don't like how its grouped. I'll have 3-photos on slide 1 then I'll slide & drag the next 2-photos I want for slide 2, however, the program will sometimes automatically combine all  5-photos onto slide 1 (which I don't want and don't know how to separate). How do I indicate that I'm starting the next slide and prevent it from automatically merging?

That is not possible.  The more elaborate slideshow themes have a fixed sequence of templates for the slides. You can drag photos around and try to get them into a specific order, but the number of photos on each slide will be determined by the theme programmatically.

Use the basic theme "Classic" or "Ken Burns" with just one photo per slide, if you want more control over the sequence of photos.

I also have this problem. I love the vintage prints layout (a beautiful layout that isn't available in iMovies), and I would've liked to have changed the number of photos per slide. I'm really surprised the app doesn't have an edit feature of a 'blank' canvas. Very disappointing.

iMovie is great, in that I can time each music track to fade in/out (each day of my holiday has a different track for example), but the themes in iMovie aren't that great.

Is there a way to have the vintage prints theme from Photos, in iMovie?

You can make your own slides with multiple photos by using a application like Pages and arrange the photos however you would like on the canvas.  Then do a print to PDF, open with Preview and convert to a jpeg.  Import that jpeg file into Photos and add it to the slideshow.

The reason I suggest Pages is because it's so easy to add, resize and arrange photos in whatever orientation you want.
