High Kernel Task Usage

I have a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.8.5 (2.2 Ghz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3). My Activity Monitor shows a very high kernel task value even at rest. A full shut down and restart corrects the problem only sometimes. I use Logic 9.8.1 and when this occurs it always crashes. Slows the entire computer down in all applications. Occurs in all my applications. Anything I can do?

Hi,

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
