Q: An Aperture Alternative? Look and try Darktable

Not sure if anything about this software has ever been mentioned here or not ( been quite awhile since I have been in the Aperture forums, but I found what looks like a direct and pretty good, free, open sourced alternative (possible replacement) to Aperture (other than say Adobe Lightroom or Serif Labs Affinity Photo.

Check out and try

Latest version release 2.0.5 here

I've been getting aquainted with this application for around a month, now.

It's pretty comprehensive and pretty well thought out and the UI layout and workflow is pretty good and deserves a look and tryout if you are/were/still a hardcore Aperture user.

More important, this software is being developed as an open source free application, so no one has nothing to lose by downloading, installing and trying this software out.

See if this might work as your new "Aperture replacement" application or not.

Good Luck!

There is another pretty good open source app - digiKam .

I have used it quite a bit.  The only problem is, that we need to know how to install Mac ports and X11.  And It usually takes a few month after a new OS X is released, before updates will be available, so it is not useful for early adopters. But it is very powerful.

How quick is the dark table community with updates for new OS X versions?
