Q: imac crashing

I have a late 2012 27" iMac with OX10.95

3.4 ghz intel core i7

For the last couple of months it has been crashing mainly when using photoshop CS5

and today it crashed when I  did not have photoshop open and just clicked on the apple

logo at the top right and on software download.

The whole mac crashes and I have to restart it by unplugging it waiting about 10 min then plugging it back in.

Sometimes I have a crash report but not always.

I crash reports for adobe bridge and Photoshop, also for Topaz DeNoise, rapport and the last one today was for Safari.

There is so much info on the crash reports I am not sure what to post, Error codes were

EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) OR (SIGSEGV)

codes were KERN-PROTECTION_FAILURE  at, KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at and EXC_1386_GPFLT

I have updated all my photoshop plug ins so that they are the most up to date versions.

I have topaz and macphun plug ins, I did have Niki collection but I have removed this in case it was causing problems.

I also have onone in extensions, I have the most up to date version which works with CS5(newer versions do not work )

I have reset preferences for photoshop/bridge and purged the cache

I have verified and repaired preferences

I have uninstalled and reinstalled photoshop.

i have verified disks in disk utilities  that was ok

I have completed Apple hardware test 3x simple and 4 times extended testing no problems were found

I had added additional 16gb of ram.  I removed this and the same problem occurred.

This iMac was recalled for a hard drive  change and at the same time a screen change was needed.  I wiped the iMac before taking in for the recall.  On it's return the operating system  had not been reinstalled and I had to do this myself. Now I am wondering if they changed the screen and forgot to change the hard drive. Could this be the problem even if it is nothing is showing on the hardware test?

Can you advise me what  to try next and what further info I need to post if necessary

Many thanks

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

Please post an EtreCheck report of your system. We can then look for obvious issues. Please click the link, download the app and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste it to your reply to this post.

If you would like more info on what EtreCheck is, simply click the link and you will find a description of the app.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Please launch the Console application in any one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

    In the Console window, select

DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION â–¹ System Diagnostic Reports

(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

              View â–¹ Show Log List

    from the menu bar.

There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A GPU restart report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".gpuRestart". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.

I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.

In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)

Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

When you post the report, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please don't select Private from the Paste Exposure menu on the page, because then no one but you will be able to see it.

There is a more than good chance that your problem is caused by the antivirus app (AVG) that is installed on your system. Please locate the developers instructions for uninstalling it and then follow them. OS X does not require any antivirus, cleaning or ANY third party maintenance utilities to run well. If left alone and kept up-to-date OS X should run fine for years.

Please remove "Rapport," also known as "Trusteer Endpoint Protection," by following the instructions on this page.

Hi Thanks for your help so far.  I have removed Trusteer End point protection  as advised but the iMac has just crashed again. I am waiting for it to recover before I switch it back on. The last 2 crashes were just trying to paste on paste bin

( before I removed Truster Endpoint Protection) then after I removed truster Endpoint uploading photo to DPreview.

Could it be faulty hard drive? or memory? as it crashes when I am doing a variety of actions.

    Hi

Thanks for your help so far.  I have removed AVG but my iMac has just crashed again.  I am giving it  a bit of time before switching it back on. The last 2 crashes were pasting on paste bin ( before I removed AVG) and uploading a photo on DP review (after removing AVG).

As the crashes occur using a variety of actions could it be hardware problem?

What exactly happens when it crashes? Do you have to restart the computer? Did you find any panic reports?
