Q: Watch display is dim even on brightest setting

After updating to watchOS 2.2.2 my display is dim. I have checked the settings for brightness on the watch and on iPhone watch app and have shut down & restarted and unpaired and re-paired and even cleaned the glass just in case... Still dim. Help!?!

    Hi

What version of iOS is installed on your iPhone?

Your watch may be in the process of regulating its internal temperature, to keep it within an acceptable range.

A dimmed display is one of the potential indications that this is happening.

In such circumstances, Apple recommends that:

    • If you are wearing your watch, you turn it off and remove it from your wrist:
      • To turn it off: press and hold the side button until you see the Power Off slider, then drag the slider to turn the watch off.
    • If your watch is still on the charger, remove it from the charger, move it to a cooler place and allow it cool down before you put it back on or continue to charge it.

My watch has been on and off my wrist and off the charger since this morning when I ran the update. We are indoors in an air conditioned environment and the watch feels normal temperature. I walked outside to see if I could even read it in the sunshine.... I could but very, very dim.

I suggest that you try turning your watch off for a while (perhaps for an hour or so) and then checking again. Keep in mind that, if internal temperature was the issue, unpairing and re-pairing your watch may not have helped to reduce it.

If the issue persists after turning your watch off for a while, then - given the steps that you have already tried - I suggest that you contact Apple Support or make a Genius Bar reservation for assistance, including with a view to having your watch checked if recommended by Apple (under warranty, if eligible).

Keep in mind also that internal temperature may not necessarily be reflected in how your watch feels on the outside.

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, as I am one of the first wave of watch purchasers so my warranty has expired.

The dilemma now is whether to pay Apple for a repair or wait for the next iteration of the Apple Watch to be rolled out. Maybe squinting will add the crow's feet of wisdom to my disappointed countenance.

I thank you for trying, Mr. Jonathan.
