Q: El Capitan NetRestore: Installation Failure With No Error In Logs

Hello,

am running into a perplexing bug with NetRestore on our Mac Pro (MacPro5,1) running the latest version of OS X (10.11.6) and the server software (5.1.7). (It's an issue that has dogged me since 10.11.4, so it is not linked specifically with the set-up I am running now.)

I am creating NetRestore images with default settings throughout (no customizations of any kind), based on basic El Capitan installations with a set of productivity apps (MS Office) and creative apps (Adobe CC). The images appear to be fine and do allow client machines (MacBook Pros and new Mac Pros) to boot off of them. Right at the beginning of the installation process (after you select the drive you want to restore the image to), the installation fails. The screen simply says "Error -- OS X could not be installed on your computer". It appears to happen right after the images attempts to initialize the drive.

I have had the log window open and there is no error noted, other than a font error that, as I gather from some other threads, is not really relevant to any installation problems:

Install Issue: TSplicedFont failed creating descriptor...

Has anyone else run into this? Any known fixes? NetRestore was always rock-solid for me under Mavericks and early El Capitan. Now, not so much ...

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

    Hi

I have the same issue. I can install all the apps I want including MS Office but if I add Adobe CC to the image it fails to install. I havent been able to overcome this as yet. However I have placed the CC install file on the desktop on the local admin user and then using ARD I run a silent install command once the machine has finished imaging. CC is however a big install and takes almost as long as the image does to deploy. I have also noticed that most of the machines don't display the normal install window and progress bar, they just appear to look like they are booting into the OS. Occasionally the machines will show the proper install window but in most cases I have to check the server for connections.
