Q: Record video from screen fail in audio

I want to record a video playing on my computer screen. Following the QuickTime Player instructions, I select New Screen Recording, None for audio (I only want the original audio, not my comments), Press the red button, drag out an area on the screen where the file plays, run the file and stop with the button on the header bar.

The file pops up, I hit play, the video runs fine, but no audio at all. As a noob to this, of course, it's my fault. I've done something stoopid, for sure. But what?

The video was a YouTube playback.

You're making it out too complicated that it really is.

Before you start the recording, choose to include the screenshot sounds.

Your capture of the options under that mark shows more than is seen on my drop down window.

I see no "Apple USB audio device" or "Built-in Input: Line in" for instance. Of course, no USB mic is attached, nor would I want to activate it. Nor is there any external audio coming into the computer via a line in.

I have "None" selected on my drop down, but no audio from the playing file is recorded. I hear it during recording, just not on playback.

How do I choose to "include the screenshot sounds" that I'm not getting now? I assume the option to "Show Mouse Clicks in Recording" is a visual effect, not pertinent to this simple recording.

    Experiment.

From what you describe, the Built In Audio source is what you need to select.

Where is that? I don't seem to see it on any window presented to me.

The only options in the Screen Recording drop down menu are

    Microphone

         None

         Built-in Microphone: Internal Microphone

    –  –  –  –  –  –  –  –  –  –  – --

    Options

         Show Mouse Clicks in Recording

Do I need a different or additional software to be able to select a "Built-in" option?
