Q: Changing batteries in Mac wireless keyboard

I am a new Mac user - I have just replaced my wireless keyboard batteries but it is not working.  Online support says to "turn the device 'on'" but I cannot see an on button (this seems like a really dumb statement!)  Can anyone assist please?

on the upper end of the keyboard the is the "tube". On one side of it you can change the batteries, and on the other side there is the on-off button.
