Q: Can I see HD using Mini DisplayPort?
I have a MacBook Pro with thunderbolt port and an iMac with mini DisplayPort. The iMac has the monitor broken. Can I use the hd of iMac using thunderbolt port (and a thunderbolt cable of course) of macbook pro on mini displayport of iMac?
Thanks
iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), broken monitor

No, a Mini Display port is only for video work. However are your positive your iMac only has a minidisplay port. If it is a 2011 or later, it has a Thunderbolt which would work.
However you can setup the two in Target Disk Mode and then use the iMac's HD. You will need the proper cabling but it should work. You will need an adapter for Thunderbolt - FireWire which is available from Apple and you can learn about TDM in Share files between two computers with target disk mode - Apple Support
