Switched from iphone 5 to iphone 6. Put sim card in and set up phone. Went to activate messages but when I went to send and receive my phone number was grayed out with a loading symbol next to it but other phone numbers and emails were there and I could select them. I waited around 2 days but it still hasn't changed. Please help me fix this.

Do you still have the iPhone 5? If so, put the SIM back in it and follow the instructions here - Deregister iMessage on your iPhone or online - Apple Support

Sign out of iMessage on the current iPhone 6, and then try de-registering the phone number you use at that URL. Then, once its deregistered, go back on the phone itself and try activating (login) iMessage again and see if it links the phone number & iMessage up to the new device.
So I de-registered the number on the old device. Then I put the SIM back in the iPhone 6 and tried activating iMessage but I get an error. It says "An error occurred during activation. Try again." I kept trying but it still keeps popping up.
