Q: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) intermitent display issues

My 5K iMac will randomly experience scrambled display issues, then freeze and restart. I am running El Capitan 10.11.15.

For example, last night I was browsing photos in the finder. When I hit the Cover Flow button to view previews, the area of the finder screen was completely scrambled and un-viewable. (I wish I'd taken a screenshot.) By scrambled, I mean a mess of lines and squares and pixelated colors.

Similarly, using some apps that request a save location, if you hit the browse button the same thing will happen. The screen does not want to draw the Finder and instead it is a completely scrambled mess

Another example. Using QuickTime Player to do a 'new screen recording' works as expected until you try to export the capture. My use case was exporting as 'iPhone, 'iPad, iPod Touch & Apple TV'.  When viewing the resulting export all I got was a green video with flashing pixels of black, and the audio.

Anyone else have this issue or know of a fix?
