Q: All of a sudden Airport Utility launches

Lately when I awaken my iMac Airport Utility is up.  Everything is green and functioning normally.  I know from my wife that WiFi has been working just fine all day.  Since she is online every waking minute I'd know within seconds if there was a WiFi glitch.  So why is APU launching it self all of a sudden?

If air port utility app is corrupted, to sort out the issue : Click on go > hold option key & don't release it > library > preferences > right click on com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist and move to trash .

Restart from apple logo & empty the trash .

Be sure only the plist (or preference) for the AirPort Utility are put into Trash.

Not any part of the actual utility itself. The preferences or permissions may be

corrupted as suggested. When .plist file is trashed, OS X rebuilds it on restart.

    Good luck !

Normally this only happens when firmware is available for your base station:Update the software on your AirPort base station - Apple Support

The latest firmware update was about a month ago. Do you remember installing that?

Before I do this I need clarification.  There are several com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist files.  They are:

    1) com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist

    2) com.apple.airport.airportutility56.plist

    3) com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist.lockfile

    4) com.apple.airport.airportutility56.plist.lockfile

Is #1 above the one to delete?

BTW, I checked and there is no firmware update available.

i have checked in my system  there is only first file com.apple.airport.airportutility.plist .please don't delete it .

but you wrote other three files there must be black dot on the box , or box  would be black that is in front of 56.plist  , plist.lockfile , 56.plist.lockfile they are malwares ( i am pretty sure as once consulted with  senior advisors in apple support ) .

Right click on three  malicious files & delete to trash , restart from apple logo & empty the trash .

note : Due to these malwares airport utility is launching .

i am guessing malwares could also be in other folders .
