Q: iMac won't boot

My iMac will no longer boot and I am suspecting that it has something to do with hard drive space. I cannot boot in safe mode but it will start up in Recovery mode where I can choose to use Disk Utility to "repair" the hard drive. It was here where I noticed that it says there is a 1TB hard drive with 0mb free. The problem is I cannot even get it to start in safe mode to delete anything. There are some dropbox folders that are synced and a download folder that could be cleared but I have no way to access this. Any suggestions on moving forward?
