Q: Pad only works when connected via lightning cable, but only click and curser movement.

Just purchased the magic mouse track pad as well along with an apple mini desk-top computer.  Pad only works when connected via lightning cable, but only click and curser movement.  No zoom, no swipe, nada.  Also, it wont pair with the computer, via bluetooth, unless it is disconnected from the computer.  However, I have no way of clicking "Pair" unless the **** thing is plugged in, in which case it automatically fails to pair when reconnected.  I need scissors to open the package that holds the scissors, lol.

tried system preferences>mouse>etc., tried bluetooth, tried doing a ceremonial tutsi chicken dance.  Computer says no.
