Q: mac pro 2010 won't feed a video signal to my tv via hdmi when I tried to update to 10.11.6!! what do i do? I've already tried all the resetting options..

i have a mid 2010 Mac Pro with a nivida gtx 970 graphics card.

i updated the card and no problem, but when i tried to update to el captain 10.11.6 and i got to the part to reboot my computer, the mac pro just stop feeding a signal to my tv

it turns on and the chime goes off and the fans are rolling ... just the hdmi won't work.

i have used several other hdmi cords, and two cvs and still nothing..

was working just fine before this started..

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), in the process...

    This is correct:

"also, he says he has the old mac graphics card.. "its not great"... apparently i can plug that in at the same time , so i can run the software that way, but i won't get it until next week."

Your MacBook Pro retina.... 2013 15 inch will boot fine from the 10.11.6 disk of your Mac Pro desktop.

Your MacBook woukld not be able to boot from an OSX version earlier than that installed on the Mac. That would be 10.8.2 for early 2013 MacBook Pro and 10.9 for late 2013 MacBook Pro.

Also, if you have USB dock or USB HD enclosure that can accept the HD from your Mac Pro you can install that I the dock or enclosure and connect to the MacBook Pro and boy with Option key and boot from the MacBook Pros HD and install the drives.

okay so if all else fails use the mac pro's old graphics card?

So my macbook pro retina is on 10.11.6 but the mac pro is on 10.11.4.. I am not sure if 10.11.6 booted on the mac pro 2010.

Will it boot up fine? or will I need to go back to 10.11.4 on the Macbook retina?

So I have 4 ssd in the mac pro 2010, I believe two are boot ups or one (not sure)

Are you saying that If I buy a ssd enclosure for the ssd that boots my mac pro , I can connect that enclosure to my macbook pro retina?

Does not make a difference since all El Capitan versions have drivers that support the graphics "cards" that came with the mac computers

    Okay..

so im able to boot up to my Mac Pro at to the MacBook Pro through the FireWire cable to thunderbolt > firewire cable adapter. I was able to update the graphics card to the newest driver.

Then I shutdown the macbook Pro  and then I press the power button until the Mac Pro is off. I then plug the h to the tv but the Mac Pro is still not displaying on the Tv.

    did I do something wrong?!
