iPod Shuffle does not restore?? Error 1429

I had the same problem with a little ipod shuffle. I read online on apple advice somewhere, that if you bang the top right hand corner 3 times onto something it should restore after that. I was very sceptical and unsure about knocking it, but could not restore it, so had nothing to lose. It worked, it restored back to factory settings immediately I plugged it in after knocking it against my computer laptray! How bizarre!
