Issues with 24fps in Final Cut Pro7

Source capture - Canon 70D - PAL - 1080/24fps

Converted to Apple Pro Res and imported into FCP7

Clip dropped into a sequence and choosing ‘change sequence to match clip settings’

Sequence rate is then 23.98fps (NTSC friendly) rather than 24p

Wondering if this is the reason why audio goes slightly out of sync with separate Zoom audio recording (never had this issue when choosing 25 or 50 formats on camera)

Also, not a huge issue, but DVDSP PAL project sees resulting video file as NTSC when converted to Mpeg by Compressor 3 - only option to choose 25 fps to keep project as PAL (I need to keep project as PAL)

Also wondering if Final Cut X includes a sequence setting for 24fps rather than 23.98

24fps straight up is very rare. Really only used for feature films and higher end cameras (like RED). 24p video runs at 23.98. The Canon cameras should really default to 23.98 when shooting 24p. Mine does, I can't even see a 24fps straight setting.

What also confuses me is "PAL 24fps." PAL doesn't do 24fps...PAL frame rates are 25fps and 50fps. Look at the raw H.264 the camera shoots...open it in QT and see what the frame rate says. it it 24fps? Even drop it directly into FCP and see what the frame rate says. Just to see what the frame rate says...FCP can show that much. And what does FCP say the converted footage frame rate is?

Yes the camera does offer a straight 24p setting but you're right - the H.264 footage from the camera is 23.98 when opened in QT and FCP7 also shows converted frame rate as 23.98.

I'll probably stick to 25 and 50 as I often use separate audio recordings to sync in post and have only experienced sync problems with Canons '24p' setting.
