I am trying to convert an itunes file to an MP3 format. I followed the instructions given by Apple and get the message that it can not make changes to a protected file. How do I get around that?

Is this an Apple Music file (no workaround at all), or a protected purchase file (burn it to a CD, then rip it)? If you think the file should not be protected but it is then it may be corrupt. We don't have information about the file and I don't want to have to type in every answer for every possible file.
