Q: Lost Itunes encrypted backup password. Question?

I know a lot of people have had this issue and have read many articles referring to paid Brute-force software which only works for free if you used a 3 character password. If any longer you have to pay. Which I tried the free and wouldn't give me at least the first 3 since it was longer. Also it was not easy to remove from my computer so those thinking about it be aware of this. I couldn't find it in the control panel >Programs section to remove it. Just FYI(Windows 7 Sp 64bit).

2 questions:

1. If I did a hard drive back up to an external hard drive before I set the password. If I restore that backup will it then have Itunes without the encryption set?

2. If not is there a reputable source that I could pay for a program or software to find the password and unlock it.

Reason being I need to restore my phone and haven't used Icloud backup in a long time. I recently added a lot of music and custom playlists and lost some great background photo's since they are no longer available in Ios 9.0 and later.

I thought that this might help a lot of people. Thanks in advance.

P.S.

Apple should really put on this site a section to grab their old Iphone backgrounds that are set in the right format and size. If they do please enlighten me. Thanks

Backups don't include photos or music.  Since those are sourced outside the device it is intended those are your backup.

iTunes: About iOS backups - https://support.apple.com/HT204136 - including a list of what is backed up.

If you have a pre-encryption backup that should work but it still won't have your music and photos.

    1. It should, but I've not seen anyone report about it working. Technically, that backup would not be encrypted.

    2. I'm not aware of any. Apple says you have to delete the backups from iTunes, restore the device to factory, and then you can turn off encryption in iTunes. This is Apple's support document about encrypted backups. About encrypted backups in iTunes - Apple Support

    Thanks for the answers guys.

I understand about the photo's and music, I was looking for background photo's that were included in previous Ios . But I thought if it was a backup it was a backup of your phone so you could get back something you lost.

ChrisJ4203. Yes I did make a backup on an external hard drive before I set the encryption password. I appreciate all the info which you guys provided and will try.

Is there a place I can find Apple cert. backgrounds or at least a reputable source that will fit my 6 plus?

Looking for the Starry Sky with snow topped mountain one?

If worse comes to worse I backup to Icloud, then wipe the Iphone and set up as new and setup a new Itunes backup and not encrypt it this time.

I suspect that an image provided with the iOS is not going to be part of a backup. Backups, if I understand correctly, do not actually backup the iOS.  If you have to restore it downloads the current highest iOS for the device then puts your personal data backup files in place on top of that along with re-syncing photos and media.  Sort of like having different teams of carpenters, plumbers and electricians in building a house.

Limnos is correct. The actual iOS is not backed up, just the data content of the phone, and which data is dependent on the type of backup, iCloud vs. iTunes. A lot of people have downloaded the individual iOS backgrounds, so as Limnos has provided the search parameters, you should find something. Good luck.
