iPod Nano 1st Generation not seen by PC

I have found my Ipod Nano and recharged it when I first plugged it in for charge it displayed the iTunes I remember being loaded. However, when I plugged it in to the PC (using the same cable I have used recently so I know it works!) it displayed a message 'Use iTunes to Restore'. I have gone through the reset routine but, it still displays the message. Any rational suggestions out there?

iPod nano, Windows 10, iTunes v.12.4.4.2
