Q: CarPlay & Canada

So on apple carplays Canadian site, they list several vehicles that have or will have apple carplay. I have a 2017 Elantra 2017, (the elantra is listed). But I cant seem to ever get a straight answer on if it will ever get it, as currently it doesnt. Are there ANY vehicles in Canada that are currently running carplay with the stock system? And Will the elantra ever get it?

    To my understanding, and I have a 2017 Elantra, you have to have a particular audio system that supports CarPlay. I have the full nav system, which according to the manual, supports CarPlay, and I will tell you that it works wonderfully. I do not believe that CarPlay will work with the stock audio system. I know at least, you have to have a screen to access the features. The only one that can answer that question completely is Hyundai, since they are the ones that determine support of the feature.

    Well when I say stock system, I mean whatever unit comes with the vehicle, (not alpine, kenwood, etc). My system is the 8 inch nav unit that currently has android auto in it. Are you in Canada, or the USA?

    I'm in the US, but again, Hyundai is the only one that can tell you when and if it would be available to you. They are the ones that control it, not Apple.

    Thanks.. Im really hoping it comes, I really want it. I shot an email off to hyundai canada to asking.

    Okay. I'm not sure if mine has Android Auto, I've never looked since I only use iOS devices. Good luck. Like I said, I really enjoy it.

    Like I said, I've not really looked. I do know that I read a story about CarPlay and Kia the other day and Kia stated that making it available for some vehicles that currently do not have it would just require a software update, so it may be very easy to upgrade it if they make it available. Keep your fingers crossed.
