Q: Internal display flickering, ghosting, blinking black
Upon opening the lid, the display began "blinking" black, by which I mean that the screen would turn on and off, but when on, only show a black screen. You can see what I mean here. When the internal display turns off, external displays lag for a second.
Occasionally, the internal screen will show what is actually on the screen, but it will flicker severely and overlay a ghost of the screen about halfway down the screen, visible here. External displays work fine, though they occasionally tear for a millisecond or two. The computer works fine, I just can't see what I'm doing. I'm posting this from the computer using an external monitor.
Steps I have taken in attempt to solve:
- I have tested to see if this is a problem that the OS sees or just the screen by doing a screen recording using Quicktime, and there is no issue in the recorded video.
- Apple Diagnostics Test revealed no issues found (Reference code: ADP000)
- Reinstalled OS X multiple times
- Booted into Bootcamp, same issue with the internal screen
My thought is that this is a bad screen cable, screen inverter, or something else that Apple Diagnostics Test doesn't cover. Thanks for any assistance you can provide!
