Q: iTunes / iPhone podcast sync issues

I've been experiencing these sync issues since I started using the podcast app a few years ago.

1: Podcasts do not automatically download in iTunes unless the program thinks you are listening to them.  If it doesn't (somehow) detect you are actively listening to the podcast, it just stops updating. This makes no logical sense and shouldn't be a default setting for any computer for any podcast.  ESPECIALLY ones such as NPR's Wait Wait don't tell me, where they don't archive old episodes.  Get rid of this option completely.

2: Remaining time for a podcast episode is not synchronized from iTunes to iPhone.  This time is only synchronized from iPhone to iTunes. Very jarring when I start listening to a long podcast, get up to take care of an errand, take my iPhone with me...but then have to somehow fast forward (using those HORRID audio seeking controls.  oh my god what idiot designed this thing) to where I left off.

3: Podcasts that require me to sign in don't carry the authorization information / credentials to my iPhone. I'm paying to access three different feeds of premium podcasts.  These feeds require me to sign in to verify I have rights to download new episodes.  I've given iTunes my information, why does my iPod need the username and password typed in on it?  In between sharing a wireless network and a cloud-enabled sync platform, I SYNCHRONIZE MY IPHONE WITH A USB CABLE.  Copy the files to the iPhone! not difficult! could be written in by a grade schooler!

4: Constantly. Having. To. Manually. Update. Library. Not just to download episodes, but to synchronize those changes to my iPhone.  iTunes should be constantly checking for changes to my podcasts, downloading new episodes, and every hour or so automatically update my iPhone (which is attached overnight with the computer running and connected to the internet)....

5: Downloading multiple copies of the same episode. Its also duplicating, triplicating...quadruplicating some of my songs in my library.  Also every now and then I realize another song is missing or has suddenly become corrupted....

If I could find *any* other software that manages Podcasts on the iPhone in a more logical manner, I would ditch the Podcasts app in a heartbeat.  However, no one else knows how to even come close to the ridiculously low standards set by Apple.

Anyone have any ideas how to work around these glaring Podcasts app and iTunes issues?
