Q: 4th Gen Apple TV won't load Home Sharing Library
I have not found this exact issue posted in Communities, so I thought to start a discussion to understand if others are experiencing this issue (and to find resolution).
I recently added my first 4th Gen Apple TV. I have six 3rd Gen Apple TVs throughout the house. I noticed that the first couple of times that I connected to Home Sharing, it took multiple attempts to connect to my computer library, but I was able connect and to stream video content. After updating to the latest versions of TVOS (9.2.2) and iTunes Windows (12.4.2.4), the 4th Gen Apple TV cannot load my library. When clicking the menu icon, it shows the name of my library. When I click on the library to load it, the box returns a "cannot connect to your library" message. This issue does not occur on any of the 3rd Gen Apple TVs.
Note: All other streaming services are working great on the 4th Gen Apple TV and I am able to cast audio/video from my iTunes computer to the 4th Gen Apple TV.
Here is a catalog of the troubleshooting that has already been completed without success:
- Forced restart of the app
- Restart of the Apple TV (software restart and power cord restart)
- Factory restore of the Apple TV
- Reboot of the iTunes computer
- Restart of the wireless router
- Changing of the network between 2.4Ghz and 5.0 Ghz wireless connections
- Disconnect/reconnect Apple TV to Home Sharing
- Stop/start Home Sharing on the iTunes computer
I have seen Plex posted as an alternative application for Home Sharing. I've used it in the past and it is a good and flexible app, but really, Home Sharing to the Apple TV needs to work as it has for years.
Community, what have you experienced - and any solutions?
