Q: Unable to boot using bootcamp after formatting OS X partition

Hi! I recently formatted my macintosh HD partition and reinstalled OS Captain. After that I am unable to boot using bootcamp. I can still see Bootcamp option in startup menu of system preferences. All files are also visible in bootcamp in finder. Please help to restore my bootcamp functionality.

    Hi, vikasfromkolkata.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Based upon the information you provided, I am understanding that you erased your Macintosh HD partition so you could reinstall OS X, and since doing that are not able to boot to your Windows partition. I know how convenient having access to Windows can be, and want to make sure yours boots; I'm happy to help!

The best thing would be to remove the Boot Camp partition and reinstall Windows. To prevent any hiccups, you should first back up both your Mac OS X and Windows partitions, then use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Windows partition. Instructions can be found in the article below on how to remove a Windows partition.

Boot Camp: Remove Windows from your Mac

After you've removed the Windows partition using Boot Camp Assistant, you can use it to recreate the partition and reinstall Windows. This will ensure Boot Camp Assistant knows where the necessary OS X files are to boot to it. If you don't remember how to install Windows using Boot Camp Assistant, the following article will help.

How to install Windows using Boot Camp

If you are unable to remove the Windows partition using Boot Camp Assistant, boot the computer into Recovery Mode (by holding Command + R during startup), then erase the hard drive and reinstall OS X again, as detailed in the articles below.

    Have a great day!

    I've the same problem.

I've added an Ex-Fat Partition by OSX and then reboot... since this operation Bootcamp partition is not bootable.

Are you saying that there is no way to re make bootable bootcamp since remove and re-install Windows? O.o

What utility did you use to format? What year/model is your Mac? What is the version of Windows?

Your reformatting removed the MBR, which helps Windows boot on Macs older than 2012 or legacy BIOS installations.

Please start a new discussion and post the output of the following OS X Terminal commands in the new discussion.

Please do not post on multiple discussions for the same problem across multiple threads. It delays the resolution further.
