Jul 22, 2016 8:25 AM in response to kamberajby OGELTHORPE,If you get the startup chime, connect the MBP to a monitor. If the monitor is also black, there is a GPU problem with the MBP. If the Monitor shows a good image, there is a display or display connection problem. An appointment at an Apple store genius bar will result in a definitive diagnosis. The evaluation will be free.
Ciao.

Jul 22, 2016 9:42 AM in response to kamberajby fixationhub,Was this ever dropped or had liquid spilled on it?

Jul 22, 2016 2:58 PM in response to fixationhubby kamberaj,No, not something like this. It just happened when I tried to turn on the laptop. (It could have been that when I switched off the laptop some applications were still running.)

Jul 22, 2016 3:03 PM in response to OGELTHORPEby kamberaj,I don't get the startup chime. I tried to connect to an external monitor. The only difference is that the screen the I saw there was gray, instead. I tried to reset SMC and NVRAM/PRAM, but no positive results. Thanks for your reply, I am thinking to visit an Apple store.

Jul 22, 2016 3:07 PM in response to lllaassby kamberaj,Hi there, thanks for the reply. Actually, I tried to reset SMC and NVRAM/PRAM, but it didn't help for me, though I have noticed that it did work for many others. I am thinking to go to an Apple Store, I hope it is not something very serious.

Jul 23, 2016 4:59 AM in response to kamberajby fixationhub,If there is no chime and nothing on the screen the CPU is probably not turning on. This logic board will likely need to be repaired.
